Cavendish DualSport Ride Sunday July 23rd.

Date:  Sunday July 23rd
Time:  Bikes out 9am  (must be CCC member, best to join online if possible, arrive with full tank of gas)
Location: 817 S Reading Rd, Cavendish, VT.
Length & Gas:
130 miles. Gas and food at Downers Corner approximately 55 miles out.
Directions:  ake Brook Rd off Rt 131 and continue north (stay on Brook Rd) until you get to South Reading Rd. The farm house and barn at the insection is the start location. Park in the field across the road from the house.

The new Cavendish ride will not be a traditional CCC route sheet and will be a combination of GPS track and/or follow the leader similar to how DARC performs their rides.  Special thanks to Skip Wareham and Tommy Reynolds for keeping this ride alive.

This will be a mid-summer ride through the Green Mountains of central Vermont. The route will consist of dirt roads with a mix of class IV woods roads. Knobbies highly recommended. This will be a “dirt oriented” multi-surface DS ride. The usual reminders are in place: (registered, inspected and insured DS bikes), QUIET mufflers, all working street legal equipment.  No race numbers please.

This will be a GPS ride, no route sheets or arrows. If you don’t have a GPS you can join a group that has one. Arrive fully fueled and ready to go. Start time is 9:00 am after a brief riders meeting. Gas and food along the route. Approximately 130 miles +-. Primitive camping in the field Saturday night available.

Sunday’s ride will be in 2 separate GPS tracks (Track_Cavendish CCC PART 1 and PART 2) because the trail boss pre-rode it on 2 different days. Part 1 will take riders to lunch & gas and Part 2 takes riders back to the start. The tracks show 78 miles to the gas stop but in reality it is 62 miles. 20 miles into part 1 the gps was off. The route is the original GPS tracks from 2015 but have a few updates due to road closures and un-passable sections from the latest storms. There will be lots of off road riding in the beginning, dirt road in the middle followed by more off road at the end.  The woods have been extremely wet so with our “tread lightly” mindset we haven’t been able to judiciously scout and prep this ride.  Also be prepared to deal with blowdown from recent storms and remember we’re sharing the trails so be courteous to our hiking/biking and horseback friends.

So, while the forecast this week looks fairly dry, expect the woods to remain wet. You will be a happy rider if you have fresh tires.
