Thunder Mountain CCC ride Sunday September 17th

New CCC dualsport ride for 2017.  This is a completely new ride with a multitude of options.  Portions include sections of Lucky’s South, the 2012 Irene and Pittsfield rides Dick Mitchel hosted, plus some entirely new content.  Primitive camping is allowed, we’ve secured a portolet and will be having a BBQ and bonfire Saturday evening.

Route Summary:  (89-151mi, 5 gas stops, 2 Hero sections, 1 single-track)

Main loop  115mi,  lunch at Bridgewater Corners, 130mi with extra Randolph/Braintree section

Short loop  89mi,   Barnard Shortcut or 104mi with Randolph/Braintree section

Marathon loop  151mi   Includes Bridgewater/Plymouth loop

Date: Sunday, Sept 17th

Camping – Primitive, show up anytime Saturday afternoon, club BBQ and bonfire Saturday evening. Portolet onsite

Difficulty: Designed for 650cc or smaller single-cylinder with knobby tires

Primary method of navigation:  Route-sheet  (should have GPS route as well)

As usual, no loud bikes or number-plates, dress for crash and ride responsibly.  Ride is route-sheeted and I’ll do my best to provide accompanying GPS route; (have about 5 editions, working on consolidating to 1 GPX file).  This has the most mount of class IV motorized off-road content I could piece together.  We’ve bypassed a couple sections in Sharon/Pomfret due to reclassifications; (legal-trail/non-motorized) and one nasty mud section.  1st Hero section is in Snowsville and have a paved bypass.  2nd Hero section is Chattaquay which we also have bypass or short loop. Longest distance between gas stops is 32miles, with that said folks will need to manage their gas.  It’s 62mi to Bridgewater not including the single-track loop(s) so some folks will want to splash and go in Bethel or Barnard which is at mile 47.

Special thanks to Bruce Mastine for allowing us to ride his single-track and Dick Mitchell for multiple pre-rides.  All totalled I’ve accumulated over 700 miles over the past 2 months and trashed 1 cell phone this past weekend.
